What is Fusion World, and what makes it different?
Fusion World is Bandai's current Dragon Ball trading card game, launched in February 2024 as a deliberately simpler alternative to the older Dragon Ball Super Card Game.
The mechanic everything is built around is Leader awakening. You start each game with your Leader Card face-up in its base form. Once you drop to four life or below, you flip it — and the awakened side is stronger. Being behind is what unlocks your power.
It's a clean piece of design because it maps directly onto how Dragon Ball actually works. Nobody in that series wins from a position of comfort; they win after getting knocked through a mountain. The card game turns that into a rule.
Practically, it means Fusion World games rarely feel decided early. Falling behind hands you a tool, so comebacks are the norm rather than the exception.
What's inside an FB-01 booster box
24 packs, 6 cards per pack, plus one digital serial code per pack — 144 physical cards, and 24 codes for the PC version of the game, which shares the physical rules and card pool.
One thing to be clear about before you buy: Japanese Fusion World packs contain 6 cards. English packs contain 12.
That's the opposite of what most collectors expect. In Pokémon and One Piece, Japanese product is typically the better cards-per-dollar buy. In Fusion World it isn't — an English box holds 288 cards against a Japanese box's 144.
The reasons to buy Japanese here are different: print quality, the Japanese card back, earlier release windows, and the fact that Japanese cards are what the collector market prices off. If you're buying purely for card volume, English is the cheaper route and there's no point pretending otherwise.
The chase cards
FB-01 has exactly two Secret Rares:
Son Goku (FB01-139) — the set's headline card, and the one everybody is actually opening for. It exists in three versions: the standard SCR, an Alt-Art (SCR★), and a Super Alt-Art (SCR★★) with premium foil treatment.
Son Gohan: Childhood (FB01-140) — the second SCR, with one Alt-Art version.
Above those sit 12 Super Rares, each with its own Alt-Art parallel, and 8 Leader Cards, each of which also has an Alt-Art version. In total the set carries 23 Alt-Art cards across all rarity tiers.
The "God Rare" question — and the correct answer
If you've searched FB-01 at all, you'll have seen the Son Goku SCR★★ described as a "God Rare." Community posts call it that. Several retailers call it that. It's worth being precise, because it's wrong.
Fusion World has no God Rare rarity. It never has.
God Rare (GDR) is a rarity from the separate Dragon Ball Super Card Game lines — Masters and DIVERS. Fusion World uses a different top-tier ladder entirely:
SCR → SCR★ (Alt-Art) → SCR★★ (Super Alt-Art)
So the card people call the FB-01 God Rare is really the Son Goku SCR★★ Super Alt-Art. It's genuinely the rarest and most valuable card in the set — the nickname isn't describing something imaginary, it's just using the wrong term from a different game.
Why this matters when you're buying: if a listing advertises a "Fusion World God Rare," the seller either doesn't know the product or is borrowing a term from a more expensive game. Neither is a good sign. Ask which parallel it actually is.
Eight Leaders — why FB-01 is still unique
Every Fusion World set since has shipped with four or five Leader Cards. FB-01 shipped with eight — two in each of the game's four original colours.
That's not trivia, it's a buying reason. Your Leader defines your entire deck in Fusion World: your colour, your strategy, your win condition. Opening one box of FB-01 exposes you to twice the Leader variety of any later set, which makes it the single best box for working out what you actually like playing.
FB-01 also launched alongside four starter decks — Son Goku (FS01), Vegeta (FS02), Broly (FS03) and Frieza (FS04) — so the game arrived with twelve Leaders available on day one. A deliberately generous launch, and it's why FB-01 is still a coherent entry point two years later.
Note that the game's fifth colour, Black, didn't exist yet. It was introduced in FB-03 Raging Roar. If you want Black cards, FB-01 isn't where they live.

Is FB-01 worth buying in 2026?
The honest version first: almost every sealed booster box in every TCG carries a negative expected value against the singles market. FB-01 included. If the Son Goku SCR is the only thing you want, buying that single is cheaper than opening boxes until one appears.
What a box actually buys you is the opening, 144 cards including several Alt-Arts, a Leader pool nothing else matches, and exposure to a set whose supply only decreases.
Two things worth weighing in 2026 specifically:
Fusion World is now ten sets deep. FB-10 Cross Force arrived in June 2026, with FB-11 Brightness of Hope in September and FB-12 Reach the God in December. A line that's still shipping on schedule two years in is a healthy line, and launch sets of healthy lines tend to firm up rather than fade.
Bandai has raised its price for the first time. Fusion World held at ¥220 per pack and ¥5,280 per box from FB-01 all the way through FB-10. FB-11 and FB-12 both step up to ¥240 per pack and ¥5,760 per box — the first MSRP increase in the game's history.
That's not a reason to panic-buy. But every box currently on our shelf was manufactured at the old price point, and new sets from September onward won't be. When a baseline moves, it doesn't usually move back.
Who FB-01 is for
- The new player. Eight Leaders in one box, and the widest possible look at what the game offers.
- The collector. This is where Fusion World started. Launch sets carry weight in a way later sets don't.
- The sealed holder. Oldest set in the line, longest out of print.
- The Alt-Art hunter. 23 Alt-Arts, including a version of every Leader and every Super Rare.
- Not for: anyone who wants Black cards (that's FB-03), or DAIMA characters (FB-04), or the absolute cheapest cards-per-dollar (FB-02).
